You know, the guy who wrote The Last Unicorn, the screenplay for Ralph Bahkshi's animated The Lord of the Rings, the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Sarek', the HUGO AWARD WINNING 'Two Hearts'.

That guy.

Ever since Saul Zaentz' company dicked him over back in the 70s regarding the LotR script (which was the direct inspiration for Peter Jackson's recent movies no one's ever seen or that won any Oscars), he's had financial troubles.

YOU can help. Yes, you.

You can go to his official publisher, Conlan Press, and buy whatever strikes your fancy and you can afford. The featured project resembles JoCo's 'Thing a Week', where he's celebrating his 50th year being a professional writer by writing one new thing every week for a year, and you can find out more and subscribe!

Having met Peter at a series of Dragon*Cons, and knowing that he'll be the Author Guest of Honor at ConFusion 2010, I can tell you that he's genuine. A quiet and unassuming gentleman, he's full of stories upon stories, and he's kind and polite and an example to anyone on how awesome a professional can be.

So, if you loved any of his works over the past 50 years, please consider helping him out. Don't buy any of his stuff from any other venues (even Amazon or B&N), because he gets NO ROYALTIES, even tho these are books, DVDs, and whatever else with his name on them. If you were considering something of his for yourself, a friend, or a family member, please only buy it from Conlan Press, so the proceeds go directly to Peter.

Thank you.

The problem is, if you buy it from Conlan Press, you might never get it. I know people who have been waiting for their purchases for /years/. :(

I've never had a problem getting anything from them, and even have talked to Connor on the phone a couple of times getting something straightened out.

They've not even made a bunch of the stuff they claimed they were going to years ago and sold in advance, though. It's not a good situation. I feel really bad for Peter, but with the way things have been run, I also don't feel comfortable pretending Conlan Press has sound business practices.

Well, for those who feel that way, such as yourself, there's always the option of seeing him at one of his signings or something and buying from him directly, or asking a friend who's going to get you something that way. That way you can help him and also ensure you get what you're paying for.

I really don't know what else to say to this, cos I've never really had a problem with anything I've ordered from Conlan Press, and I've ordered several things. Dunno.

You'll note the last update in reference to TLU audiobook stuff and Two Hearts mentions 2007, more than two years ago. People have been waiting for this stuff for four or five years. :/

Your suggestion of buying stuff at signings and such is definitely a good one, though.

In the interest of fairness, someone came onto one of the pony boards a couple of years ago when people were complaining and offered refunds, but still. How many people out there will have moved, changed email addresses, lost any proof of making an order, or even remember having done so? While I don't think for a second anyone involved in this set out to scam people, since the products still haven't been produced, that's what it essentially has become.

I must concur. When I saw this I remembered that the Christmas present I bought my wife in 2008 that was to ship in January STILL hasn't arrived. I have to poke Connor about it again. I'm not exactly enthused with the rapidity of delivery, to be honest. That said, I feel bad for him that he's been as rooked as he's been so I'd prefer to get money to him directly.

I just wish I got products in return.

Man. Wish I could, really. But right now we're so tight up against the wall ourselves, I'm not sure if we're eating next month unless we move back in with my parents.
